Community grant issued to help young adults into employment [News Release – May 2019]

Northamptonshire-based Housing Association, Greatwell Homes, have provided a grant to local business Enable to help young adults living in their homes get into employment or full-time education.

Enable will be leading a youth mentoring programme to address employment issues targeting 18 – 25 year olds and will offer bespoke support that aims to positively challenge, support and inspire young adults in the local area.

7.2% of young adults in Wellingborough are currently NEET (not in employment, education or training) and it is thought this could impact the health, behaviours and long-term employment prospects of those who are out of work for more than six months. Over half of the young adults that Enable have worked with have started in full-time work, education or self-employment after receiving support.

Gary Allebone, Learning Champion for Enable, said: “I’m delighted to be working with Greatwell Homes to offer the young adults living in their homes to access an employability course which will improve their skills at accessing the jobs market or training opportunities, how to represent themselves at interview and will produce an Actions Plan so attendees can continue on their journey towards appropriate education, employment or training opportunities independently.”

Chris Holloway, Head of Housing and Support Services at Greatwell Homes, commented: “I am thrilled that we are able to work in partnership to provide even more support to customers living in our homes. I am positive that Enable will work successfully with young adults to deliver long-term positive changes and to reduce worklessness in the local community.”

This support is available to all 18 – 25 year olds who are living in a Greatwell Homes property. For more information or to refer someone for support, please email or call 01933 234450.
