XL Bully ban: what it means for you and your tenancy

From 31st December 2023, it will be illegal to own an XL Bully dog without a certificate of exemption.

The breed will be added to the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 which means it will be illegal to have, sell, give away, abandon or breed an XL Bully dog.

All customers must follow the Government guidance if they wish to keep an XL Bully is their home. This means that all owners of this breed of dog must send us their certificate of exemption, along with your third-party liability insurance and request permission from us to continue to keep the dog at their home.

Applications for a certificate of exemption must be submitted by 31st January 2024.

The above only applies to existing customers – new customers of Greatwell Homes will not be given permission to keep this breed at their home. Any customers who were in the applicant process with an XL Bully dog when laws changed will still be given permission.
