New equipment and seaside trip for Wellingborough LIVE following community grant donation

Our Customer Assembly have awarded Wellingborough LIVE a £3,000 community grant to continue their great work.

Wellingborough Learning Independence Volunteering Employment (LIVE) is a specialist team within North Northamptonshire Council focused on supporting individuals with learning disabilities and related barriers to employment. For the past two years, they’ve had a thriving partnership work with Greatwell Places and includes tidying gardens for some of our most vulnerable customers and improving green spaces and litter picking within the local community.

With the funds granted by our Customer Assembly, Wellingborough LIVE have been able to purchase better-quality industrial gardening equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) to support them in their projects. It has also helped to fund a day trip to Skegness, chosen by the LIVE team, as a well-deserved reward for their hard work and dedication.

“Thank you so much for your generous donation to LIVE customers. The donation really will make a huge difference both to us and to the Greatwell Homes customers we assist.” – Caroline Bannard, Team Leader at North Northamptonshire Council

Our Community Grants fund is an allocated pot of money our Customer Assembly monitors and awards each year to different community projects. To be awarded a grant, the project must fit the criteria of at least one of our Live Greatwell strategies.

Previous projects that have received a community grant have been:

  • Wellingborough Eco Group, helping to cover costs to run the Eco Hub
  • An Activity Camp at Croyland Nursery School over October half-term
  • Queensway FWD, a programme of support with 11 local partners delivering sessions over a 12-week period
  • Care and Repair’s warm home assessments on 76 homes, which included providing mould treatment, radiator foils, light bulb replacements and security lighting where needed.

We’re proud to continue supporting Wellingborough LIVE with a new work-experience scheme due to launch this month. Through this initiative, a member from Wellingborough LIVE will have the opportunity to build transferable skills, confidence and independence while working alongside our Greatwell Places team.
